NASA scientists have discovered an Earth-sized planet that may have water on its surface.

NASA’s New Planet TOI 700e: NASA has discovered a planet orbiting a tiny star about 100 light-years away. This planet is the size of Earth. This planet has been given the name TOI 700e.

It is a rocky planet 95% the size of Earth. Water is probably liquid at the surface of this planet.

To do this, the scientists used the NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. It is the fourth planet orbiting the dwarf star TOI 700.

Previously, scientists have discovered three planets in this system. They were named TOI 700b, c, and d. Of these, planet d orbits the habitable zone.

In 2020, NASA discovered a planet called TOI 700d. Its length is just like that of Earth.

Emily Gilbert, a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist who led the study, says it’s one of the few known systems with habitable planets. This planet is 10% similar to Planet D.

“This is one in all many small liveable planetary structures we realize of,” stated Emily Gilbert.

This discovery will now lead to further development of the TOI 700 system. Planet e is set 10% smaller than planet d.

Gilbert presented the results on behalf of his team at the 241st American Astronomical Society meeting in Seattle.

A research paper related to the newly discovered planet has been accepted in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

These planets do not rotate on their axis.

The closest planet to TOI 700 is TOI 700b, which is 90% the size of Earth. It orbits the star once in 10 Earth days. Then there’s TOI 700c, which is 2.5 times the size of Earth.

It orbits the star in 16 days. However, these two planets do not rotate on their axes, so only one side faces the Sun, like the moon.
