Story of Maa Mansa Devi.
The story of Mansa Devi is told by Lord Narayana in Devi Bhagwat Purana. He tells that in ancient times when the fear of serpents had increased in the universe.
With the help of Kashyap sage, Brahma Ji composed mantras and manifested Manasa Devi as his presiding deity.
She was called Manasa only when it appeared from the mind of Brahma Ji.
Mother Manasa did penance for Lord Shankar and Shri Krishna at her behest in childhood, due to which Shri Krishna, being pleased, offered her many accomplishments and worshiped her himself.
After this Lord Shankar, Kashyap Devta, Muni, Manu, serpents, and humans worshiped her.
Manasa Devi was married to the sage Jaratkaru, who abandoned his wife Manasa in anger when she woke him up for evening worship.
Later Lord Krishna, Shankar, and Narad Muni explained. After which she also got a son, whom Lord Shankar got to study the Vedas.
According to the legend, when Parikshit died due to the bite of the snake Takshak and the son Janamejaya performed a yagna and started burning all the serpents, Takshak Nag went to the shelter of Mansa Devi along with Indra Devta.
Then it was Mansa Devi who sent Muni Aastik to Janamejaya and got Takshak’s life saved.

Mansa Devi can be worshiped at any time. But worship in the month of Ashadh, Nag Panchami, and at the end of the month has special significance.
During this period, with devotion, offering Naivedya, flowers, clothes, etc. to the mother should chant the Dwadash or Dashakshar Mantra.

According to Devi Bhagwat Purana, after chanting the Twelfth Mantra of Mansa Devi five lakh times, the seeker becomes perfect. For him, even poison becomes like nectar and can be compared to Dhanvantari.
