NIA files charge sheet against one who spread ISIS ideology.

The NIA on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against a member of the banned Islamic group Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HUT) in a special court in Chennai.

He is accused of sharing provocative posts from his Facebook account and promoting the ideology of the terrorist organization ISIS.

Abdullah alias Shravan Kumar, 31, a resident of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, has been charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code and (UAPA), a National Investigation Agency (NIA) official said.

The case was registered in Madurai in April. The official said that Abdullah used to share posts inciting people on Facebook with the aim of establishing the rule of the Caliphate.

This threatened the security and sovereignty of the country. He was seeking cooperation from other countries in the formation of an army to establish an Islamic State through Jihad in Tamil Nadu.

The official said Abdullah is a very staunch member of HUT. This organization is banned in many countries.

At the same time, it was told that during the search, 22 digital devices including mobile phones, hard disks, memory cards, pen drives, laptops, and several booklets indicating the crime were recovered.

Earlier in July, the NIA had raided six locations in four districts of Tamil Nadu in connection with a Facebook post by an extremist who allegedly advocated the ideology of the IS terror group and radical outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir.

An NIA official had said that the residences of the arrested accused Abdullah and his associates located in Thanjavur, Madurai, Theni, and Tirunelveli districts were searched.
