These raids were conducted under the guise of the Popular Front of India (PFI) for conducting anti-national activities and a conspiracy to make India an Islamic State by 2047.

The Popular Front of India (PFI) is an Islamic organization. This organization describes itself as a voice for the rights of the backward and minorities.

The organization was founded in 2006 as a successor to the National Development Front (NDF). The organization has its roots in Calicut, Kerala.
