Only AC Coaches Will Be In 130 Km Trains: Indian Railways

Only AC coaches will be in 130 km trains, Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat train will start from October 15. Trains with speeds up to 130 kmph or above on select routes will have only air-conditioned (AC) coaches in the near future.

Railways are preparing this as part of a plan to upgrade their network. Railway Ministry spokesman DJ Narain said that tickets for these trains will be cheap.

However, he clarified that it should not be understood that all non-air-conditioned coaches will be replaced by AC coaches.

The technical requirement of air-conditioned coaches

Currently, the speed of mail/express trains on most routes is 110 kilometers per hour or less. Narayan said that premier trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto are allowed to run at 120 kmph.

The coaches of these trains are suitable for running at speeds of 130 km per hour or more. Narain said that it is a technical requirement to have air-conditioned coaches in case the train runs at a speed of 130 km per hour.

Work on increasing the speed of trains

Narain said that Indian Railways is working on a big plan to increase the speed of trains. There are plans to run trains on the Golden Quadrilateral tracks at speeds ranging from 130 kmph to 160 kmph.

In place of non-air-conditioned coaches, air-conditioned coaches will be installed only in trains that have a speed of 130 kilometers per hour or more. Non-air-conditioned coaches will remain in trains with a speed of 110 kilometers per hour.

Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat train will start from October 15

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday that the Vande Bharat train from Delhi to Katra will resume its service from October 15.

The move comes after his recent discussion with Railway Minister Piyush Goyal regarding resuming the train from Jammu and Kashmir to Katra before Navratri.

Singh, Minister of State for Labor, is a Lok Sabha member from Udhampur constituency in Jammu and Kashmir. The stalled train services are being resumed sequentially in late March due to the lockdown.

There is good news for those traveling by plane within the country. The Ministry of Aviation has said that the lower fare limit fixed by the government on May 21 for economy class seats of domestic flights will now be applicable for premium economy class seats as well.

However, the Ministry’s order of October 5 states that the higher fare limit fixed by the government for economy class seats will not apply for premium economy class seats.
