The government told how many women officers are in the three armies, also gave big information on defense imports

The Central Government told the Rajya Sabha on Monday that India has reduced spending on defense procurement from foreign sources by 10 percent in the last three years.

Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt said in a written reply to the question of BJP member Roopa Ganguly that the expenditure on defense procurement from foreign sources has come down from 46 percent to 36 percent during 2018-19 to 2020-21, thereby reducing the burden of imports.

This shortfall is due to several government policy initiatives under the ‘Make in India’ program in the last few years.

He said reforms aimed at promoting indigenous design, development, and production of defense equipment have helped in reducing imports.

These initiatives include prioritizing the procurement of capital goods from domestic sources under the Defense Procurement Procedure, 2020.
