Pakistan: Action By Karachi Police On Baloch Protesters

Pakistan: Action by Karachi Police on Baloch protesters, arrested 28 people protesting for missing students.

Karachi Police on Monday arrested 28 protesters who were protesting outside the Sindh Assembly.

All these protesters were protesting against the alleged kidnapping of two Baloch students of Karachi University (KU) by law enforcement agencies.

According to Dawn’s report, protesters protesting against the kidnapping of two Baloch students of Karachi University were also assaulted.

In fact, two KU students, Doda Baloch and Gamshad Baloch were taken from their home near Maskan Chowringhee in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on June 7 and are yet to be traced.

Relatives of the missing students and civil society organizations have organized a protest camp outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) for the past two days and took out a rally from KPC to Sindh Assembly.

However, the police and the district administration spoke to them and persuaded them to vacate the place.

The organizers of the protest have accused the police of misbehaving with women and children.

They said the Sindh police had on Monday held a meeting with the officials of the Counter-Terrorism Department with the relatives of the missing students and assured them of all possible help.

They alleged that when they staged a sit-in near the Sindh Assembly building, the police beat up the protesters and arrested them.

The protesters said they had demonstrated for the release of the missing but the authorities did not act on their demands.

They questioned for what crime the two students of KU were detained.

The protesters also demanded the release of both the students as well as the tracing of other missing people.

Meanwhile, Farhatullah Babar, general secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party, criticized the use of unbalanced force and the arrest of women, saying such behavior was extremely disturbing.

According to the report of Geo News, former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari has termed the situation barbaric.

At the same time, Sanaullah Baloch has strongly condemned the inhuman act of violence against innocent and peaceful Baloch women and students of Sindh Police.

He said that the Sindh government should investigate the incident.
