Parambir Singh Fined For Not Appearing Before Commission

Parambir Singh fined Rs 25000 for not appearing before the Commission of Inquiry: Maharashtra.

A commission of inquiry headed by a retired High Court judge has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh.

The former police commissioner did not appear before the commission. Earlier in June, the commission had imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on the former police commissioner.

The Maharashtra government in March this year constituted a one-man commission headed by Justice (retd) Kailash Uttamchand Chandiwal.

This commission was set up by Parambir Singh to investigate the allegations of corruption leveled against the then-state home minister Anil Deshmukh.

A public prosecutor said on Thursday that a fine of Rs 25,000 has been imposed after the former Mumbai Police Commissioner failed to appear before the commission on Wednesday.

Parambir Singh fined Rs 25000: During the earlier hearing, the Commission of Inquiry had given Parambir the last chance to appear.

After being removed from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner and transferred to the Home Guard in March.

Parambir Singh claimed in a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray that Deshmukh was pressurizing police officials to extort money from restaurant and bar owners in Mumbai.

NCP leader Deshmukh had denied the allegation. Here, in the illegal recovery case, Thane Police had issued a lookout notice against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh.

A case was registered against Parambir and 27 others at Thane Nagar police station on the complaint of businessman Ketan Tanna.

A lookout notice is issued to prevent a person from leaving the country. The names of many other policemen were also included in the FIR registered in the police station.

It is noteworthy that on July 30, Ketan Tanna had registered a case against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh and 27 other people, after which this notice has been issued.

Tanna alleges that when Parambir Singh was Thane’s police commissioner between January 2018 and February 2019,  Singh had extorted Rs 1.25 crore from him by threatening to implicate him.

Let us inform you that Parambir Singh had written a letter to the Chief Minister of the state, Uddhav Thackeray, accusing former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of extorting Rs 100 crore.

Deshmukh is also accused of interference in transfer and posting.
