Parliament Attack 2001: 21st anniversary of the terrorist attack on Parliament Today.
2001 Parliament Attack: On the 21st anniversary of the Parliament Terror, more than 100 ministerial-level MPs were surrounded and security forces saved their lives.
Today is December 13th. December 13th is the Black Day of Assault on Parliament. Twenty-one years ago today, a sinister plot was concocted to attack the world’s most democratic temple.
Today marks the 21st anniversary of the attack on the Indian Parliament by two Pakistan-based terrorist groups, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
The terrorist attacks in 2001 shocked the whole country. The relations between the two countries were strained after this attack.
On the day of the attack, the Winter Session was taking place, so there were many journalists in the room. The entire shootout was covered and broadcast live on news channels.
Here’s how the terrorists carried out the case.
At around 11:40 am on December 13, 2001, five terrorists drove into the Capitol in an Ambassador vehicle with fake Interior Department stickers and red lights.
When the car stopped at Gate 12 of the building, a member of the Congressional Oversight and House Committee had his doubts.
The car was then forced back but collided with then-Vice President Krishna Kanth’s car.
Terrorists armed with AK-47s and hand grenades then dismounted and opened fire. At that moment, an alarm sounded and all doors to the building were closed.

After about 30 minutes of gunfire, the terrorists were eventually killed near the Capitol.
The attack killed five Delhi Police security officers, one female CRPF bodyguard, two security assistants from the Parliamentary Surveillance and Protection Unit, a gardener, and a photojournalist.
At least 15 human beings have been injured withinside the assault.
Security forces risked their lives to safely rescue more than 100 members of parliament and ministers in the House of Representatives.
Police arrest 4 suspects.
The police registered an FIR and within days a Delhi police special cell made four arrests. A person was tracked using evidence related to the vehicle and cell phone records used by the terrorists.
The four accused are former JKLF terrorist Mohammad Afzal Guru, his cousin Shaukat Hussain Guru, Shaukat Afsan Guru’s wife, and Delhi University Arabic teacher S. A. R. Gilani.
Afzal Guru was hanged in 2013.
Afsan was acquitted by a court on 29 December, while Gilani, Shaukat, and Afzal were sentenced to death. Jilani was acquitted in 2003 by the Delhi High Court for “lack of evidence”.
The decision was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2005 and Shaukat was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Afzal Guru was hanged in 2013 and his body was buried at the Tihar prison.
