Peace Agreement Will Be Signed Between Center And Assam

Peace Agreement will be signed between the Center and the Assam government, CM said – a new era will begin.

A very important agreement is to be signed between Assam and the Government of India on Thursday.

Ten years after the peace process began, the Center and the Assam government will sign a tripartite peace agreement with eight tribal extremist organizations in the state today in New Delhi.

The peace agreements will be signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

These are the major eight tribal militant groups.

The eight insurgent groups, which include Birsa Commando Force (BCF), Adivasi People’s Army (APA), All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA), Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam (ACMA), and Santhali Tiger Force (STF).

Along with this, different groups of the remaining three organizations BCF, ANLA, and ACMA are also included.

The BCF, APA, AANLA), ACMA, and Santhali Tiger Force (STF) have been in a ceasefire with the government since 2012 and since then activists of the militant outfits have been staying in the designated camps.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that I am sure that the signing of the agreement will usher in a new era of peace and harmony in Assam.

246 rebels had laid down arms in the past.

Let us tell you that on January 27 this year, a total of 246 insurgents of two insurgent groups of the state laid down their arms and returned to the mainstream.

169 insurgents of the United Gorkha People’s Organization (UGPO) and 77 insurgents of the Tiwa Liberation Army (TLA) laid arms.

These groups laid down their arms in front of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti at a ceremonial ceremony held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

It is worth mentioning that ever since Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government came into the state. Since then the militant outfits have become quite inactive.

The state government has been taking strict measures against these organizations from time to time.
