Permanent Commission: Discriminatory For Women Army Officers

Permanent commission in Army: Supreme Court said – the process of giving permanent commission to women officers in the army is discriminatory.

The Supreme Court has termed the process of giving permanent commission to women officers in the army as discriminatory.

The court on Thursday allowed the petitions seeking the permanent commission of women SSC officers in the army.

At the same time, the Army’s annual confidential report (ACR) assessment process was flawed and discriminatory. The court said that the ACR ignores the pride earned by the women officers for the Indian Army.

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said that the process through which women officers were evaluated does not address the concerns of gender discrimination.

Concerns were raised about this in the judgment delivered by the court last year. The court ruled on the petitions filed by several women officers.

In this, the Court has sought to issue orders for the Permanent Commission and the promotion issued to the Center to follow the instructions issued in February last year.

The court, meanwhile, directed that the women officers be considered for permanent commission within a month, and under the process, they should be given permanent commission within two months.

The court ruled that there could be no judicial review of the standards adopted by the army. The court said that when a woman chooses a career in the army, she passes rigorous examinations.

When it comes to the responsibility of managing a child and the responsibility of domestic work, it becomes more difficult for women.

Let us know that on 7 February, the Supreme Court, in an important decision, rejected the Centre’s plea and asked to give PC to all the women officers who want to opt for this option.

The Center cited physical capabilities and social norms in its plea for not giving women a command post. The court had said that the mindset about women should be changed. Women work shoulder to shoulder with men.
