Petition filed in SC regarding the appointment of CBI Director. NGO Common Cause has filed a petition for the appointment of a regular director of CBI.

A petition has been filed in the SC regarding the appointment of the director of the Central Investigation Agency, CBI.

In this petition, the Chief Justice of India, the Prime Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition Committee have been asked to appoint regular directors of CBI. NGO Common Cause has filed a PIL.

It said that instead of appointing a regular director, the government has appointed an interim director after the previous CBI director’s term ends.

The petition further states that the government has failed to appoint a director of CBI as per Section 4A of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.

After the end of the tenure of Director Rishi Kumar Shukla on February 2 this year, and on February 3 Praveen Sinha was appointed temporary director until further orders.

Demand for information about one or two months before the post becomes vacant.

The petition has sought direction from the Central Government to start the selection process of the CBI Director in advance in the future.

There has been a demand to give information about one or two months before the post is vacant. The petition said that CBI, being a premier investigative agency in the country.

CBI investigates corruption-related crimes involving institutions of the central and state governments and the apex court has from time to time made CBI as important as corruption and human rights violations.

The task of investigating the cases is entrusted.

The petitioner urged the Supreme Court to issue a proper writ to the Government of India to appoint a regular director of CBI.

Following the procedure laid down in Section 4A of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act 1946 as amended by the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013.
