PFI Supporters Protest Against The NIA And ED Raids

PFI supporters protest against the raid, and damaged an auto rickshaw during the bandh; Petrol bombs were also thrown.

NIA and ED conducted raids on people associated with the Popular Front of India (PFI) across the country on Thursday.

Central investigative agencies have also arrested a large number of people of PFI in the terror funding case.

The Popular Front of India (PFI) has called for a ‘Kerala Bandh’ on Friday against the raids by the central probe agency.

Incidents of violence have come to the fore in different parts of Kerala in the bandh call by PFI.

An auto-rickshaw and a car were allegedly damaged by PFI men supporting the bandh in Thiruvananthapuram.

PFI supporters hurled petrol bombs.

Stones were pelted on Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses (KSRTC) in various districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Alappuzha in Kerala.

Local media reported that a petrol bomb was hurled at a vehicle carrying newspapers for distribution at Narayanpara in Kannur in the morning.

In Alappuzha, a KSRTC bus, a tanker lorry, and some other vehicles were pelted with stones by PFI supporters.

A 15-year-old girl and an auto-rickshaw driver sustained minor injuries in stone-pelting by PFI activists in Kozhikode and Kannur.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Police has beefed up security in the state and issued instructions to the district police chiefs to ensure law and order following the statewide bandh call by the PFI.

In a statement issued by the police, it has been said that strict action will be taken against those who violate the law.

In a statement, the PFI said that the arrests of our top leaders are part of the terror unleashed by a controlled repressive regime.

Along with this, PFI State Secretary A Abubak said that our strike is to protest the fascist measures of controlled governance. We expect support from all democratic forces.

Regarding the action of central investigative agencies, PFI leaders said that some public relations documents seized from their offices have been termed secret documents.

NIA arrested and seized documents.

On Thursday, a joint team of NIA and ED raided the offices and homes of PFI leaders in 10 districts of Kerala and arrested several leaders, and seized documents.

Angry activists at several places tried to disrupt the raid, but their attempt was foiled by CRPF jawans.

Kerala has the highest number of arrests.

According to people aware of the developments, Kerala has the highest number of arrests at 22 during raids across the country.

Those arrested include PFI ideologue P Koya, national president OMA Salam, national secretary Nasruddin Elmarom and state president CP Mohammad Bashir.

These arrested people will be taken to Delhi after obtaining the transit warrant.

Those arrested include charges like funding terrorists, sending youth to disturbed areas, creating unrest in different parts of the country, and inciting violence.

At the same time, the BJP has appreciated the action taken by the central investigative agencies on the PFI.
