Police Force: More Than Five Lakh Posts Vacant In States

Police Force: 195.39 policemen on one lakh population in the country, more than five lakh posts vacant in states.

Posts of about 5.31 lakh personnel in the police forces of various states are vacant. At the same time, 1.27 lakh posts are vacant in the Central Armed Forces.

This information was given by the Police Research and Development Bureau (BPR & D) on Tuesday. According to BPR & D, 1,19,069 personnel have been recruited in 2019 in various police forces.

A total of 26,23,225 posts are sanctioned in the police forces of the states and union territories, while there is 20,91,488 police personnel in the service.

Hence, 5,31,737 posts were lying vacant in the police forces of various states as of January 1, 2020.

BPR & D, the unit of the Union Home Ministry, said that the number of women in the police forces is 2,15,504 which is 10.30 percent of the total police force in India.

There has been an increase of 16.05 percent in the number of women police personnel compared to the previous year.

According to the data, the total number of sanctioned posts in the Central Armed Forces (CAPF) is 11,09,511, but as of January 1, 2020, there were a total of 9,82,391 personnel in the CAPF, a shortfall of 1,27,120 personnel.

At the same time, the number of women personnel in CAPF is 29,249 which is 2.98 percent of the total capacity.

CAPF consists of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force, (CISF).

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), National Security Guard (NSG), and Assam Rifles Huh.

According to the data, there are 800 police districts in the country and the number of sanctioned police stations is 16,955. The total state armed police battalions are 318.

The government has spent Rs 1,566.85 crore in expenditure and police training in 2019-20. BPR & D said that it has released data related to police organizations as of January 1, 2020.

He said that BPR & D has been publishing data related to police organizations (DOPO) on an annual basis since 1986.

195.39 policemen on one lakh population

According to BPR & D, there are 195.39 policemen per population-wise accepted police ratio (PPR) per one lakh population. The Police Area Ratio (PAR) is 79.80 policemen per 100 square kilometers.

Out of 16,833 police stations in the country, 143 police stations do not have wireless facilities. However, there are no trains in 257 police stations.
