Bhushan had said in his affidavit that criticizing the functioning of any one Chief Justice or subsequent Chief Justice does not mean tarnishing the image of the Supreme Court. He said that his tweet about the CJI sitting on a motorcycle involving his anguish for not having normal functioning in the Supreme Court for more than three months

Earlier, advocate Prashant Bhushan defended his tweet, which allegedly contempt of court. He said that those tweets were about his personal level of conduct against the judges and they do not obstruct the administration of justice. The court had on July 22 issued a show-cause notice to Prashant Bhushan in this case.

While completing the hearing, the bench dismissed the application filed separately to withdraw the July 22 order. Under this order, notice was issued on two tweets allegedly defaming the judiciary, starting contempt proceedings.
