Pro Kannada groups have called for a shutdown in Karnataka on Saturday. Yeddyurappa asked Pro Kannada organizations to withdraw the call for the Karnataka bandh, protesting against the Maratha body.
Regarding this, state Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has said that there is no need for any kind of bandh, as it gives people a chance to cause inconvenience to others.
He said that he promises to carry all sections of the society together.
The Kannada supporter groups led by Vatal Nagraj have called a Bharat bandh on 5 December against the decision of the Karnataka government to allocate Rs 50 crore to the Maratha Development Board in Karnataka.
In view of this, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said this while talking to the media.
Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday criticized Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.
He said that Yeddyurappa announced the formation of the Maratha Development Authority in the state and was following the ‘divide and rule’ policy.
He tweeted and said that BS Yeddyurappa is adopting the policy of divide and rule by establishing Maratha Development Authority as usual.
Keeping in view the electoral benefits only, Yeddyurappa is taking the unscientific route of establishing development bodies based only on castes.
The pro-Kannada organizations are against the formation of the Maratha Development Authority, which was announced by the Chief Minister on 14 November and provided Rs 50 crore for ‘overall development of Marathas’.
On Friday, these organizations reaffirmed their demand to keep India closed on Saturday and said that the government should withdraw its decision to form MDA.
Vatal Nagraj, who is leading the movement, said that the movement in Bengaluru is for Kannada pride.
He said, ‘I want to tell Yeddyurappa – you take back the’ authority ‘(MDA), I will garland you, but don’t threaten us. We will not be afraid of it. ‘
He alleged that the government has threatened various organizations with the help of police to withdraw support for the bandh, but to no avail.
Filmmaker Sa Ra Govindu, Ola-Uber Drivers Association, and some auto-rickshaw unions have lent their support to the bandh. However, government offices, hotels, bus services, and metro services will remain open.
