Problem can be solved only through dialogue: Mehbooba Mufti.

Terming democracy as a war of ideas, PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said that only through dialogue can peace be established in Kashmir.

Mehbooba said the PDP’s decision to form a government with the BJP after the 2014 elections was a difficult decision but was necessary to solve the Kashmir problem.

The BJP left the PDP and to achieve its objective, the BJP dissolved the assembly. We led a coalition government without compromising on any issue.

It was due to the efforts of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that there was peace in Poonch and Rajouri. In 2003, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire.

With the opening of the Poonch-Rawalakot road, not only did families get along but people also got an opportunity to do business.

She gave credit to her party for opening Baba Ghulam Shah Barshah University, Mughal Road, Nursing College.

To improve relations between India and Pakistan, cross-border trade was opened which instilled confidence.

Accusing the Modi government of damaging democratic institutions for its agenda, she said that Jammu and Kashmir have lagged behind in terms of progress.

So much damage has been done that it is difficult to compensate. Whenever a government is formed in Jammu and Kashmir, it will restore confidence in democracy.

This will be a challenge for the government to be formed.
