Police are investigating the matter further

Amid tight security arrangements a day before Independence Day, Counter Intelligence Ferozepur has foiled a major terrorist plot by arresting two members of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a network of Pakistan’s ISI-backed terrorist Harwinder Rinda.

Providing this information, Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the arrested accused were identified as Harpreet Singh, alias Preet, of village Bhullar, district Tarn Taran, and Gulshan Singh, alias Nandu, of village Rampura, district Amritsar. Police recovered two 86P hand grenades, a 9mm pistol, and five live cartridges from them.

The action comes a day before Independence Day and two days after five BKI members, including three minors, were arrested from Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan, from whom an 86P hand grenade and a .30 bore pistol were recovered.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the initial investigation revealed that the arrested accused were working on the instructions of foreign handlers sitting in the UK, USA, and Europe. The accused had conspired to disrupt peace and harmony in the state by targeting government buildings and police stations with grenades.

Punjab Police Foil Major Terror Plot: DGP said further investigation into the case is ongoing to find out its forward and backward links.

Giving information about the operation, AIG CI Ferozepur Gursevak Singh Barad said that on the basis of strong intelligence information, the team of CI Ferozepur arrested Harpreet Singh and Gulshan Singh from Talwandi Bhai district, Ferozepur.

Police have secured the remand of the accused, and the interrogation is likely to reveal more about their contacts and possible targets at home and abroad. A case has been registered under the Arms Act and the Explosives Act at the SSOC Fazilka police station.
