Russia suspended from UN Human Rights Council, India maintains a neutral stance, with 93 votes in support of the US resolution and 24 votes against.

Russia was suspended from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Thursday on the proposal of the US and its allies.

Ignoring pressure from the US and Russia, India maintained its neutral stance on the Ukraine issue.

58 countries, including India, were absent from voting in the emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Whereas 93 votes were cast in support of the suspension motion and 24 votes were against. That is, 92 countries supported America and 23 countries including China stood with Russia.

Russia suspended from UNHRC: The first incident in UN history.

This is the first time in the history of the United Nations that a permanent member of the Security Council, the highest body of the organization, has been suspended from membership in the subsidiary body.

Russia’s membership in the Human Rights Council lasted until December 2023.

Russia called the process of suspension illegal.

Russia has declared the suspension process illegal. The US and Russia have been under constant pressure from member states to vote on a resolution to suspend Russia from the 47-member council.

Both America and Russia had created pressure.

While the US wanted India’s support in support of its resolution, Russia said on Wednesday that it will look after the countries that support the resolution and abstain from voting.

Russia will keep such countries in the category of non-friendly countries and will take action against them in the future.

India’s neutral stance.

India has not taken any side in the voting on the Ukraine issue in the United Nations and its role was neutral.

He said, with respect to the Ukraine war, India has a clear view that peace should be established there through dialogue and diplomacy. No problem can be solved by bloodshed.
