S Jaishankar Attended SCO Foreign Ministers Meeting in Tashkent

S Jaishankar attended the SCO Foreign Ministers meeting in Tashkent. In the SCO meeting, India surrounded Pakistan in a matter of terrorism.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference in Tashkent on Friday that there is an urgent need to address the global energy and food crisis arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine conflict.

In the presence of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto, Jaishankar also said that there should be a zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of terrorism.

Jaishankar made this remark indirectly with reference to Pakistan.

In his address at the Foreign Minister level meeting of the Group of Eight countries, Jaishankar also underlined the potential of Chabahar port for the economic future of the SCO.

Jaishankar said in the SCO meeting that there is an urgent need to address the global energy and food crisis.

S Jaishankar attended the SCO meeting: The foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan also participated in the conference.

They discussed the preparations for the upcoming SCO summit in Samarkand on 15-16 September.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and other leaders of the group are expected to attend the summit.

Jaishankar tweeted, “Attended the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tashkent.

It highlighted that the world is facing an energy and food crisis due to disruptions from the Covid pandemic and the Ukraine conflict.

It needs to be addressed immediately. He said that zero tolerance towards all forms of terrorism is necessary.

The SCO is an eight-member economic and security organization, which is considered a response to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

In recent years it has emerged as a major inter-regional international organization. India and Pakistan became their permanent members in the year 2017.

The Presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan established the SCO in 2001 during a conference in Shanghai.
