Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, director general of CISF, will be the new chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Jaiswal of Maharashtra cadre was considered as the most strong contender for the new chief, being the most senior of the three names whose panel was prepared on Monday.

The notification of the Central Government to make him the CBI Director was issued on Tuesday night.

The tenure of the CBI director is fixed for two years. The post of the head of the country’s top investigative agency was running vacant after RK Shukla retired in the month of February.

For the past four months, CBI Additional Director Praveen Sinha was temporarily working as director of the investigating agency.

Jaiswal, born on 22 September 1962, is a 1985 batch IPS. Being in the Maharashtra cadre, he has also been the Police Commissioner of Mumbai and DGP of Maharashtra.

He has also served in the Research and Analysis Wing (RA) for nine years.

The other two names were VSK Kaumudi, Special Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and KR Chandra, Director General of SSB.

Due to a rule decided by the Supreme Court in the appointment of the new CBI chief, the two prominent names in the race were out before being considered.

It is understood that in a meeting of the High Powered Committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday for the appointment of CBI Director, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice MV Ramana, ruled not to appoint officers with less than six months tenure at DG level.

Referred. Because of this, both Rakesh Asthana and YC Modi, being counted among the most powerful contenders to become CBI directors, were left out of the race.

Senior IPS officers Rakesh Asthana and YC Modi are both from the Gujarat cadre and were among the favorite central government officials for the post of CBI director.

YC Modi is retiring from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on May 31, while BSF Director General Rakesh Asthana will retire on August 31.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was in the CBI Director’s Appointment Panel, is said to have expressed no objection to these names.

But criticized the appointment process and the attitude of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) regarding the panel and in his disagreement file on it Registered.

When asked about this, Chaudhary said that he objected to the lack of seriousness of the DoPT in the appointment process of a key post like CBI Director because 109 names were sent to the panel first on 11 May.

After this, 10 names were sent at one o’clock in the day before the meeting on Monday and six names were shortlisted at four o’clock in the evening which shows the non-professional attitude of the DoPT.
