Supreme Court Sentenced Senior Lawyer Prashant Bhushan

Supreme Court sentenced lawyer Prashant Bhushan and imposed a fine of one rupee on him, three months in jail for non-payment. Supreme Court sentenced lawyer Prashant Bhushan to pay a fine of Rs 1 in a contempt offense. Bhushan has to pay the fine by 15 September. For non-payment of penalty, Bhushan will have to stop advocacy for 3 months and simple jail for 3 months.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra pronounced the sentence. Let us tell you that on August 14, Prashant Bhushan was convicted by the court in the case of two objectionable tweets against the judiciary. Significantly, the Supreme Court gave time to Prashant Bhushan to apologize, but he refused to apologize.

After this, during the hearing on August 25, Prashant Bhushan’s lawyer Rajiv Dhawan had requested the bench not to punish Bhushan. On the last hearing, a three-member bench headed by Justice Mishra had asked Bhushan why he could not apologize? What is the problem in saying sorry words to him. Justice Mishra is scheduled to retire on September 2.

Attorney General KK Venugopal also urged the court to forgive Bhushan for not doing so further. The bench then gave Bhushan even half an hour to consider withdrawing his statement. Venugopal had also asked Bhushan to withdraw all his statements and apologize. But Bhushan refused to do so. On Venugopal’s request, the bench said that mistakes happen to everyone, they should be accepted. But Bhushan is not ready to accept his mistake.

On 29 June, Bhushan posted a tweet in which he posted a picture of Chief Justice SA Bobde, in which he was sitting on an expensive bike. He also made objectionable remarks with the picture. Then in another tweet, he questioned the role of the last four Chief Justices regarding the situation in the country. Another case of contempt against Bhushan is pending in the Supreme Court.

These 2 tweets of Prashant Bhushan considered contempt

First tweet: June 27- When historians look at the past 6 years of India, we find how democracy was abolished in the country without an emergency. In this, they (historians) will question the role of the Supreme Court, especially the 4 former CJIs.

Second tweet: June 29- In this, senior counsel shared a photo of Chief Justice SA Bobde with Harley Davidson bike. Criticizing CJI Bobde, he wrote that he had ordered the courts to be closed during the Corona era.

Bhushan was also given a notice of contempt earlier

Prashant Bhushan was also given a contempt notice by the Supreme Court in November 2009. He then commented on some Supreme Court judges in an interview to a magazine.
