Tamil Nadu and Kerala are facing the threat of the ‘Buravi’ storm on December 4. In view of this, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert.
On the other hand, PM Modi has spoken to the Chief Ministers of both the states and assured them of all possible central support to deal with this disaster.
Meanwhile, NDRF teams have been dispatched to Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, and Madurai and relief camps have been set up at Nagercoil.
The warning branch of the Indian Meteorological Department has said that the storm may hit the coast of Tamil Nadu on 4 December.
Due to this, a red alert has been issued in South Tamil Nadu and South Kerala for December 3. In the wake of the storm, Tamil Nadu Minister of State RB Udayakumar visited Rameswaram on Wednesday.
He said all the fishermen have returned from the sea and people living in low-lying areas have been asked to go to relief camps.
PM had a phone conversation with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister EPS and Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan, the Prime Minister tweeted that we discussed the situation created by the bad storm.
The Center will extend all possible support to Tamil Nadu and Kerala. I pray for the well being of the people living in the affected areas.
IMD has said in a bulletin that after Sri Lanka reaches Trincomalee, Buravi is expected to come towards the Comorin area around the Gulf of Mannar and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
The department said that it would then move west-southwest and cross the South Tamil Nadu coast between Kanyakumari and Pamban on the morning of December 4.
Director of the Meteorological Center of Kerala, K Santosh told that the cyclonic storm will cross the coast of Sri Lanka in the evening or night of 2 December.
With this, the process of strong winds will start with very heavy rains in different places of the state.
Strong rains have been issued in parts of South-North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, South-North Kerala, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Lakshadweep.
