Tensions in Bhaderwah: Protests erupt in Bhaderwah town of Jammu and Kashmir over an allegedly objectionable social media post by a Hindu group leader. FIR registered, internet services suspended. Authorities urge calm and communal harmony.

People started protesting in Bhaderwah under Doda in Jammu and Kashmir over a post that went viral on social media. Protests and a partial shutdown were witnessed in communally sensitive Bhaderwah town of Doda district on Saturday following an allegedly objectionable social media post by a Hindu group leader, following which authorities suspended mobile internet services, officials said.

Bhaderwah Superintendent of Police Vinod Sharma said an FIR has been registered against the accused Virendra Rajdan, and raids are being conducted to arrest him. At the same time, the officer has appealed to the people to maintain peace and communal harmony.

Tensions in Bhaderwah: Post made on social media

Razdan, head of Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha Bhaderwah, allegedly posted communally sensitive content on his social media account, which has angered members of both Hindu and Muslim communities.

Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah on Saturday took out a march from the local Jamia Masjid to Bhaderwah police station and raised slogans demanding the arrest of the accused for “hurting religious feelings of Muslims through objectionable posts”.

Shops in town partially shut

The protesters dispersed after the Superintendent of Police assured them of appropriate action against the accused under the law. However, shops in the town remained partially shut on the call of the Anjuman. Anjuman-e-Islamia president Riaz Ahmad Nazar said the peaceful protest will continue till the culprit is arrested.

“This is not the first time he has made such controversial remarks against our religion. He is a habitual offender and should be dealt with under the law in the larger interest of peace and brotherhood,” Riaz said.

Tensions in Bhaderwah: Case registered against Razdan

The Bhaderwah SP said a case has been registered against Razdan at the police station in Bhaderwah under Section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). An FIR has been registered, and efforts are on to arrest him.

I appeal to all concerned to remain calm and maintain communal harmony, as the law will surely take its course. The administration will not tolerate any kind of nuisance, Vinod Sharma said. He said multiple raids are being conducted to nab the culprit.

Internet suspended in Bhaderwah

Officials said that mobile internet services have been suspended in Bhaderwah town and adjoining areas as a precautionary measure. Senior BJP leader and District Development Council (DDC) member from Bhaderwah West, Thakur Yudhvir Singh, condemned the unfortunate post. He said Razdan has uploaded the objectionable video in his capacity, and Sanatan Dharm Sabha Bhaderwah has nothing to do with the post.

An FIR has been registered against the person responsible for uploading irresponsible content on the social media site. Action will be taken under the law. “Take caution… “Avoid forwarding or sharing videos or messages that incite hatred among communities,” Doda police wrote on X.
