The terrorists then acted in a cowardly manner and fired indiscriminately on an unarmed police inspector who came out in the mosque in South Kashmir’s Chandpora (Anantnag) on Monday after offering Namaz.
In this attack, terrorists showered bullets on President Police Medal awardee brave inspector Muhammad Ashraf Butt was martyred.
The terrorist organization TRF (The Resistance Front) has claimed responsibility for this attack. Inspector Butt was soon to be promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent.
Muhammad Ashraf Butt came home on leave
Muhammad Ashraf, posted at the Police Commando Training Center in Lithrapora, Pulwama, came home a few days ago on leave. He went to the Masjid, a short distance from home, to offer prayers on Monday evening.
After Namaz, he had gone out of the mosque and headed towards his house when the terrorists who came suddenly opened fire on him very closely.
Ashraf fell there, the terrorists escaped after committing the crime. Security forces rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Took part in many anti-terror campaigns
Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Butt took part in several anti-terror operations. During 2019 station in charge at Kupwara, he played a notable role in killing several prominent terrorists in the district and capturing their overground workers.
Last tribute to martyr
Martyr Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Butt was paid the last tribute in the district police line late in the evening.
Senior police officers and jawans, including IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, DIG South Kashmir Range Atul Kumar Goyal, SSP Anantnag, SSP Pulwama, and SSP Avantipore, presented wreaths and flowers on the mortal remains of the martyr.
After this, the body of the martyr wrapped in the tricolor was taken with full respect for his family in his native village Chandpora.
Terrorist attack in Pulwama also, CRPF jawan injured
A team of security forces was on regular patrol in the Gangu area of Pulwama district on Monday morning. The group was attacked by terrorists hiding in an orchard on the outskirts of Gangu village.
A CRPF jawan was injured in this. The other soldiers retaliated against the terrorists by taking them to a safe place.
After this, the encounter lasted for about 25 minutes. During this time, the terrorists fled. The search operation was on till late in the night.
