Israeli Deputy Ambassador Ronnie Yedidia Klein has said that we have reached a ceasefire with Hamas and we hope that there will be no more firing from Hamas.
Klein said that when something happens, we are in constant contact with our counterparts, such as with the Ministry of External Affairs in India.
The ceasefire came into effect on Friday after mounting pressure from the US, Egypt, and other international groups to stop the violence.
Israel’s Security Cabinet voted for a cease-fire late Thursday. According to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, the Security Cabinet unanimously agreed to end the war.
Earlier, a top Hamas commander had expected a cease-fire by Friday. A senior Hamas political official, Moses Abu Marjouk, told Lebanese TV, “I think the ongoing efforts to ceasefire will be successful.”
I hope a compromise can be reached for a cease-fire within a day or two by mutual agreement.
