The Hope Of Lasting Peace In Nagaland Have Increased

The hope of lasting peace in Nagaland has Increased, another militant organization has left the path of violence.

The Modi government’s efforts for peace and development in Northeast India have yielded another major success.

NSCN (K) Nikki Group, a militant organization operating in Nagaland, has signed a ceasefire agreement, giving up the path of violence.

With this, 200 cadres of the Niki Group have joined the peace process with their 83 weapons. This is the fifth pact with militant groups in Northeast India after Amit Shah became the Home Minister.

Fifth agreement in Northeast India after Amit Shah became Home Minister.

A senior home ministry official said that Nagaland had earlier signed a ceasefire agreement with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) (IM), NSCN(NK), NSCN(R), and NSCN(K).

Apart from this, an agreement has been reached with NSCN (IM) on a format to solve the Naga problem.

It is a different matter that the agreement could not be finalized due to the subsequent NSCN(IM) sticking to a different flag and a separate constitution.

The hope of lasting peace in Nagaland has Increased: With NSCN(K) Nikki joining the talks, the hope of a peace deal has increased.

It is noteworthy that on September 4, all the militant groups of Karbi Anglong laid down arms and signed an agreement with the Center and Assam.

Before that, in January 2020, an agreement has been signed with Bodo and in August 2019 with the militant groups of Tripura.

NSCN (IM) cadres are joining Niki Sumi’s outfit in large numbers. NSCN (IM) general secretary T. Muivah is adamant about the demand for a separate constitution and flag.

According to sources keeping an eye on Nagaland, Muivah’s obstinate attitude and corruption have led to the disillusionment of the common people with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM).

It may be noted that the NSCN (IM) had signed a draft agreement with the central government in 2015, but after four years of negotiations, at the time of the final agreement, it stuck to a separate flag and constitution.

This effort was heavy on Muivah.

Two months ago, several office-bearers from Nuland in Dimapur had left the NSCN (IM) and joined Nikki Sumi’s organization. Even before this, hundreds of cadres have moved to other organizations.

Similarly, Muivah’s attempt to mediate between Thangkul Baptist Churches and Thangkul Naga Baptist Convention has come under fire.

On 16 April, the office of Thangkul Nga Long, considered to be the mouthpiece of the NSCN (IM) in Hanphan, was torched.
