The SC Will Hear Tomorrow On The Plea Of Param Bir Singh

The SC will hear tomorrow on the plea of Param Bir Singh, demand to hand over the investigation to the independent agency.

The Supreme Court (SC) will hear the petition of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on Tuesday.

Singh has appealed to hand over all the investigations against him to an independent agency like Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) outside Maharashtra.

Param Bir Singh made allegations of corruption and misconduct against former Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh.

After this, on 17 March, he was removed from the post of Commissioner of Mumbai Police and made the head of the Home Guard Department. Deshmukh also had to step down.

The leave bench of Justice Vineet Saran and Justice BR Gavai will hear the petition of Singh.

Singh’s lawyer Mukul Rohatgi gave this information. Singh, in his petition, has made the state government, CBI and Maharashtra’s police chief a party.

CID summoned the person who accused Singh.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department of Maharashtra Police i.e. CID has summoned Police Inspector Bhimrao Ghadge, who has accused Param Bir Singh of corruption, for questioning on Wednesday.

Ghadge is currently posted in Akola. On the complaint of Ghadge, the Maharashtra Police had filed an FIR against Param Bir Singh last month.

Demand for change of appointment process of Election Commission from Supreme Court, said- Government interference arises due to doubt

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court questioning the constitutional validity of the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners.

It is said that due to lack of proper appointment process, there is doubt about the fairness of the Election Commission.

The non-governmental organization ADR has demanded the apex court to order its appointment to the Election Commission through a collegium or a selection committee.

The petition said that government officials should have no role in the appointment of officials of the Election Commission.

Because this weakens the possibility of a decision free from the influence of the ruling party. The appointment process should be such that there is no possibility of any mismatch in it.

The Public Interest Litigation states that democracy is indeed the basis of the Indian Constitution. It expects free and fair elections to be held in the country.

Whereas the political and government interfering Election Commission raises doubts in the way of fulfilling this expectation.

The role of the government in the appointment to the posts of Election Commission raises doubts about the impartiality of the institution.

The petition states that the process of appointment in the Election Commission also violates Article 14 of the Constitution.

It calls for doing everything possible to conduct free and fair elections. Therefore, the order given according to the demand of the petition will uphold the sanctity of the election process.

The atmosphere of free and fair elections in the country will be improved.
