At least 13 people were killed in firing by security forces in Nagaland’s Mon district. Police said on Sunday that it was investigating the incident to determine whether it was a case of mistaken identity.
A soldier also died in the violence that broke out after this incident.
The incident took place between Oting and Tiru villages when some daily wage laborers were returning to their homes in a pickup van from a coal mine.

Army personnel operating in the area allegedly opened fire on the vehicle after receiving information about the movement of militants of the Yung Ong faction of the banned outfit National Socialist Council of Nagaland-K (NSCN-K), a police official said. In this 13 laborers died.
The enraged mob then surrounded the army vehicles and torched at least three vehicles. An army soldier was killed in this conflict.

The Army’s Three Corps Headquarters said that credible information was received about possible militant activities in the Tiru area of Mon district.
Based on this, it was decided to launch a special campaign. This unfortunate incident of the death of people is being investigated at the highest level.
