U-23 Five-Nation Tournament: India vs Netherlands Ended In Draw

U-23 Five-Nation Tournament: Indian junior women’s hockey team held the Netherlands to a 2-2 draw.

The Indian junior women’s hockey team made a spectacular comeback from a two-goal loss to restrict the Netherlands to a 2-2 draw in the five-nation Under-23 tournament.

In this match played on Monday night, Annu (19th minute) and Beauty Dungdung (37th) scored for India while Brauwer Amber (13th) and van der Broek Belen (17th) scored one each for the Netherlands.

The Indian team was under a lot of pressure from the beginning as the Netherlands got two consecutive penalty corners in the opening five minutes.

India did not allow them to score but Amber scored in the 13th minute to give the Netherlands the lead, which was doubled by Van der Broek Belen in the 17th minute.

India counter-attacked and secured a penalty corner which Annu converted in the 19th minute.

Despite being behind by a goal, the Indian team made a great comeback

Despite being behind by a goal, the Indian team showed a great game in the third quarter. Vice-captain Beauty Dungdung scored in the 37th minute to level the score 2-2.

After this both the teams got opportunities but no one could take advantage of them. The Indian women’s team will take on Ukraine in their third match of the tournament on Wednesday.

Before the tour, Indian junior women’s team captain Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke had said, “Finally we have reached here for the Under-23 five-nation tournament.

We are very happy after coming here. The weather here is wonderful. We have tried to adapt ourselves to the conditions here during the practice session.

We have trained well and our focus is to replicate this stellar performance in the upcoming matches.
