UNGA President Volkan Bojkir Appeals To India And Pakistan

UNGA President Volkan Bojkir appeals to India and Pakistan. Peace, stability, and prosperity in South Asia rest on India-Pakistan relations.

United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Volkan Bojkir said on Thursday that peace, stability, and prosperity in South Asia rests on the normalization of relations between Pakistan and India.

Bojkir also urged both the neighboring countries to work for a peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue.

Bojkir, a former Turkish diplomat and leader, is in Pakistan on an official visit. He made this comment during a discussion on the ‘importance of multilateralism’ at the National Defense University here.

Bojkir said that peace, stability, and prosperity in South Asia rests on the normalization of relations between Pakistan and India, which is possible with the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

This appeals to India and Pakistan.

He said, “I urge India and Pakistan to work towards a peaceful resolution of this issue.” He said, “I have always urged the parties to refrain from changing the situation in the disputed area.”

Bojkir’s indirect gesture was towards India’s move to divide Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories in August 2019.

Bojkir, who arrived in Islamabad on an official visit on Wednesday at the invitation of Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Bojkir also interacted with him in the Ministry of External Affairs and discussed the issue of Kashmir among other matters.

The Foreign Office tweeted, “Bojkir reiterated that the UN position on the Jammu and Kashmir issue is governed by the UN Charter and relevant UN Security Council resolutions”.

The decline took place after the terrorist attack by terrorist groups based in India. Subsequent attacks, including an attack on the Indian Army camp at Uri, worsened relations.

Relations between the two countries further deteriorated when Indian fighter jets targeted Jaish-e-Mohammed’s terrorist training camp inside Pakistan in response to the Pulwama terror attack on 26 February 2019.

India-Pakistan’s relationship worsens in 2019: 40 CRPF personnel were killed in the Pulwama terror attack.

After this, relations between the two countries deteriorated further after India announced the abolition of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 and the division of the state into two union territories.

India has told Pakistan that it wants normal neighborly relations with Islamabad in an environment free of terrorism, hostility, and violence.

India has said that it is the responsibility of Pakistan to create an environment free from terrorism and hostility.

Bozkir is the first citizen of Turkey to preside over the United Nations General Assembly. He also visited Pakistan in August 2020 before assuming the post of the President of the United Nations General Assembly.

During his address, Bojkir also said that the inaction of the United Nations on the issue of Palestine is hurting its credibility.
