US Troops In Iraq To Be Reduced To 2,000 Soon: Trump

US troops in Iraq to be reduced to 2,000 soon: Trump. US President Donald Trump has said that American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq will soon be reduced to about 4,000 and 2,000 respectively.

Trump said during a White House briefing on Thursday, “There has been a lot of progress in Afghanistan, but we will be able to deploy 4,000 troops in a very short time.” In Iraq, similarly, we will keep about 2,000 soldiers in a very short time.

He further said that we are very out of Iraq and now we will remain there with a small force. We will soon leave only 4000 soldiers in Afghanistan. Trump said the US military had said a day earlier to reduce troop deployment.

US Central Command Commander Kenneth McKenzie said on Wednesday that the US military presence in Iraq would be reduced to 3,000 by the end of September, and in Afghanistan to about 4,500 by early November.

Currently, more than 5,000 US troops are stationed in Iraq to fight the Islamic State and primarily to support Iraqi forces in the fighting. At the same time, in view of the presidential election, Trump wants to appear even while fulfilling his promise.

Where they promised to bring the soldiers back home, ie where there is always a war-like situation, which they are making more efforts. At the briefing, Trump also told reporters that Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo would go to Qatar to begin inter-Afghan talks.

According to the Qatar News Agency, the Qatar government announced on Thursday that a new round of Afghanistan peace talks would begin on September 12 in Doha, Qatar’s capital. President Trump wants the complete withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

The war in Afghanistan, which has caused approximately 2,400 US military deaths, is the deadliest in US history. The Pentagon said in mid-July that the US maintained its force level in Afghanistan at under 8,000, meeting the terms of the US-Taliban Agreement signed in late February.

The agreement called for the complete withdrawal of US military forces from Afghanistan by May 2021 if the Taliban met the terms of the deal, including relations with terrorist groups.
