Vikas Kumar, deputy commandant of the 208 Battalion, killed in an IED blast in Sukma: Chhattisgarh.
Vikas Kumar, the deputy commandant of the CRPF’s COBRA battalion, was injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Naxal-affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
He was posted in the 208th Battalion and went out on a search with his team in the Kistaram area of Sukma district on Sunday. During this time, the Naxalites put an ID on their way.
Vikas was severely injured by the fall of this IED while inactive.
He was immediately resuscitated by fellow jawans present there and then brought to Raipur for immediate treatment by helicopter. He breathed his last during treatment here this morning.
Let me tell you that during the last fortnight in Sukam district, two CRPF officers have been martyred in the incidents of the Naxalite blast.
Shaheed Vikas Kumar was originally from Muzaffarpur in Uttar Pradesh. He is survived by his wife, a 1-year-old son, and a 4-year-old daughter.
In Sukma on Sunday, Naxalites planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on their patched road to target security forces and police. The security forces caught sight of it, but it exploded while defusing it.
In the wake of this blast, Vikas Kumar, an officer of the Cobra Battalion of CRPF, came and was seriously injured, after which he was brought to Raipur for treatment.
IG Sundarraj P of Bastar Range said that the incident took place between Parodi and Kistaram villages in the Sukma district around 10.40 am.
The officer injured in the incident was initially taken to Kistaram Field Hospital of CRPF. He was sent to Raipur for further treatment.
On 29th November too, an Assistant Commandant of CRPF was martyred after Naxalites hit IED in Tadmetla, Sukma. Many soldiers were injured in this incident.
