With a doodle today, Google is proud to introduce Hungarian-American biophysicist, scientist, and inventor Dr. In memory of Maria Telkes.

On December 12, 1900, Dr. Maria Telkes was born in the Hungarian city of Budapest. She is engaged in solar energy technology.

Before she came to the United States, Maria Telkes studied physical chemistry at the University of Budapest in 1920 and she received her Ph.D. in 1924.

For her birthday, Dr. Maria Telkes, Google remembered her today with her doodle. He believed that the power of the sun could change a person’s life, and he was right.

On this day in 1952, she became the first woman to be awarded the Society of Women Engineers Achievement Award.

Played an important role in the development of solar stills.

Dr. Maria Telkes studied physical chemistry at Eötvös Lorand University in Budapest and she graduated in 1920 with her bachelor’s degree.

She completed her doctorate in 1924 and left for the United States the following year to become a biophysicist.

She became a US citizen in 1937 and she became a member of the Solar Energy Committee at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Maria Telkes was also asked by the US government to develop a solar still during World War II.

She used to turn salt water into fresh water. This saving invention was used by soldiers stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

This is how the life of Dr. Maria Telkes, Queen of the Sun, began.

After World War II, Dr. Maria Telkes returned to MIT as her research assistant professor. Dr. Telkes built the Sun House in Dover in collaboration with architect Eleanor Raymond in 1948.

Dr. Maria Telkes’ inspiring career has been one full of success and innovation. She was hired by the Ford Foundation to create a solar oven design that is still in use today.

She has also assisted in solar energy research at prestigious institutions such as New York University, Princeton University, and the University of Delaware.

She has received over 20 patents and has also worked as a consultant for several energy companies. Today, Dr. Maria Telkas is also remembered as the Sun Queen.
