Woman IPS to lead anti-terror operations in Kashmir valley, Charu Sinha appointed IG CRPF. CRPF, which is fighting terrorism in Kashmir, has appointed a woman IPS officer for the first time to command anti-terrorism operations. Charu Sinha, a 1996 batch Telangana cadre IPS officer, will take charge as IG CRPF in the Srinagar sector.
This is not the first time that IG Charu Sinha has been given such a tough command. Prior to this, she has also dealt with Naxalites in Bihar as IG CRPF. Several anti-Naxal campaigns were conducted under her leadership. From there she was transferred to Jammu as IG BSF. After spending a long and successful tenure here, she was appointed as IG Srinagar in an order issued on Monday.
Earlier, IG Maheshwari was handling the command of the Srinagar sector. He was given the leadership of the Srinagar Sector in the year 2005. The Srinagar sector of CRPF also comes under the three districts of Kashmir division including Ganderbal, Budgam, and Srinagar, Union Territory of Ladakh.
IPS Charu will be the first woman officer after IG Maheshwari in this sector to be launched in the year 2015, who will command CRPF operations in these areas most affected by terrorism. Let us also tell you that there are 2 ranges, 22 executive units, and three women companies in this sector. Apart from this, the Srinagar sector also has administrative control over Group Center-Srinagar. Charu Sinha will lead all the operations in these areas.
You are aware that IPS Charu was working as Director in the Anti Corruption Bureau before taking over the command of CRPF. In the year 2018, she was appointed as the IG of the CRPF Bihar Sector. This was also the first case of deployment of a female officer as CRPF IG in Bihar. Charu Sinha has also served in various capacities in Andhra Pradesh during her tenure. In addition, she has also gone on a one-year UN Peace Keeping Mission in Kosovo. Not only this, but she has also been the Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission.
