World Aids Day 2022: These 7 Diet Tips Can Reduce The Risk Of Death From HIV

World Aids Day 2022: These 7 diet tips can reduce the risk of death from HIV.

World AIDS Day 2022: HIV ie Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a type of chronic retrovirus, which causes AIDS ie Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.

AIDS is the last stage of HIV. HIV attacks the body’s immune system and destroys white blood cells, which fight infection in the body.

Research has been done for years regarding HIV and its treatment has also improved. People living with HIV can now live a healthy and long life if they take the right medicines at the right time.

This also includes antiretroviral therapy (ART) medicines. Along with ART, HIV can also be managed through natural methods, including diet and supplements.

Let us find out what should be the diet of an HIV-positive patient.

1. Include a good amount of fruits and vegetables in the diet

Fresh fruits and vegetables are a great source of nutrients. They contain antioxidants, which protect the immune system.

Try to make fruits a part of your diet daily along with seasonal and fresh vegetables. Eat a different vegetable and fruit every day so you can get all the vitamins and minerals you need.

2. Consume Lean Protein.

Lean protein is essential for the body, our body uses it to strengthen muscles and the immune system. Therefore, eat lean chicken, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, and nuts in the diet.

You will need to eat more protein if you are very underweight, as is the case with HIV in stage 2 or 3.

3. Choose Whole Grains.

Carbs give energy to our body just like petrol works to run the car. That’s why eat things like brown rice and whole-wheat bread in my diet.

They are packed with energy-boosting elements like B vitamins and fiber.

When you consume a good amount of fiber, it reduces the accumulation of fat in your body, called lipodystrophy, which is a possible side-effect of HIV.

4. Cut down on sugar and salt intake.

HIV increases your risk of heart disease, either because of the virus itself or because of the medicines you’re taking to treat it. Excess salt or sugar increases the risk of deteriorating your health.

5. Consume Healthy Fats.

Fats provide energy, but they are also high in calories. If you are not trying to gain weight, then reduce your food intake. Nuts, vegetable oils, and avocados are good for heart health.

6. Get your calorie intake right.

If you are losing weight, your doctor will recommend the right supplements for you. But usually, HIV-positive patients are overweight, so they need to maintain a healthy weight.

Excess weight becomes the cause of heart disease, diabetes, and many types of cancer. Also, they make your immune system weak.

7. Get plenty of fluids.

Most people drink less water. So make sure you drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.

Fluids help carry nutrients and flush used medicines out of your body. Also, they increase your energy level and keep you hydrated.
