Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General M.V. Suchindra Kumar also reviewed the newly inducted ‘Aasmi’ machine pistol on Friday. The Indian Army had inducted 550 indigenously developed Aasmi machine pistols in the Northern Command earlier this month.

The special thing is that the Aasmi pistol is a 100 percent Indian-made weapon. Aasmi is to be used for close combat and special operations in the Northern theater. Modern weapons are being added to the army fleet to accelerate operational preparedness in the Northern Command.
The Asmi pistol will make it easier to rein in terrorists. The inclusion of the weapon manufactured in India reflects the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to self-reliant India. This weapon has been developed by Colonel Prasad Bansod of the Indian Army in collaboration with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Lokesh Machines Limited in Hyderabad is producing the weapon domestically. The Army said that the unique semi-bullpup design of the pistol makes it easy for the jawan to operate it with one hand. It can function as both a pistol and a submachine gun.
According to the specifications, this gun has an eight-inch barrel and a 33-round magazine firing 9 mm ammunition, ready to arm the special forces for close combat and special operations in the operational area of the Northern Command.
