The AFSPA was extended for 6 months in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, and the Home Ministry issued a notification. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has implemented the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for 6 months in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland. In this, AFSPA has been extended for the next 6 months in the entire state except 13 police station areas of 5 districts of Manipur. At the same time, AFSPA has also been implemented in Tirap, Changlang, and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh and three police station areas of the state.
The districts of Nagaland where AFSPA has been re-implemented are Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, and Peren.
AFSPA Extended in Manipur: What is AFSPA?
AFSPA is implemented in disturbed areas. Under this law, the security forces get an important power. Under this, the security forces have the power to arrest anyone without a warrant. Also, due to this law, there is a provision for use of force in many cases. AFSPA is implemented only in disturbed areas.
What special rights are given to the security forces under AFPSA?
AFSPA law gives the security forces the right to arrest a person without a warrant, enter or search the premises without a warrant and take other actions. Along with this, AFSPA also allows firing.
Apart from this, the security forces also have the right that if any militant or rioter is hiding in the house, then it can also be destroyed. Action under this law is possible only when it is implemented by the central government in a disturbed area.
