All measures will be used to rescue people trapped in flood-hit areas of Kerala: Chief Minister.
In view of the floods in Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a high-level meeting on Saturday.
The Chief Minister emphasized the safe evacuation of the people trapped in the flood-hit areas and said that arrangements were being made to rescue them at the earliest.
It was told in the meeting that colleges were to be opened from October 18 but now it will open on October 20.
Apart from this, an appeal has been made to the devotees going to Sabarimala not to come here till October 19. Chief Minister Vijayan has described the current situation in the state as serious.
All measures will be used to rescue people: The administration has made rescue arrangements and at present, the situation is said to be under control.
Contrary to the claims of the administration, there are reports of the non-availability of rescue teams and relief material in many areas.
According to officials, rescue teams from the Army, Air Force, and Navy have left for Kottayam and Idukki rural areas. Soon the affected people will get relief.
11 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have also been dispatched to the affected areas.
Let us inform you that the security forces have reached the affected areas on the demand of the Kerala government to deal with the situation arising out of the floods in the central and southern parts of the state.
Over five people were killed and a dozen people were reported missing in Kerala on Saturday in heavy rains and landslides.
Hundreds of people living in low-lying areas had to leave their homes and move to safer places.
The dams built in several districts in the southern part of the state are nearing full filling. If there is more water than the prescribed capacity, their doors may have to be opened.
This is likely to make the situation worse. The state government, sensing the possibility of floods in a large area, has sought the help of security forces.
There are many hilly areas in the state where their land connectivity will be cut off from the rest of the world in case of floods.
The situation in Kottayam, Idukki, and Pathanamthitta districts is the worst. Idukki has received a maximum rainfall of 24 cm.
