Andhra Government Is Focusing On Reducing COVID-19 Mortality

Andhra government is focusing on reducing COVID-19 mortality: KS Jawahar Reddy. KS Jawahar Reddy, Special Chief Secretary, Department of Medicine and Health, said on Tuesday that the main focus of the Andhra government is to reduce COVID-19 mortality. Talking to the media, he said that the death rate in the state is under control and some districts have recorded fewer deaths than their previous records.

Nellore, Chittoor, and Prakasam districts have recorded an increase in deaths while Anantapur, Guntur, Krishna, Visakhapatnam, and Srikakulam districts have seen a decline. Similarly, the number of positive cases has increased by 6.26 percent by registering additional 8,139 cases. While a steady decline in cases was observed in Anantapur, Guntur, Krishna, Kurnool, and Vizianagaram districts, an increase in the number of cases was reported in Nellore, Prakasam, and Srikakulam districts.

With regard to sero-surveillance, which was conducted in four districts- Anantapur, East Godavari, Krishna, and Nellore, by testing the presence of IgG antibodies, it was revealed that the virus spread in 16.7 percent of the population of Anantapur district in eastern 14.4 percent in the Godavari, 21.7 percent in Krishna and 8.2 percent in Nellore. It was also identified that widespread prevalence was seen in urban areas and also in non-homogenous areas.

Sero survey in different states of the country is being done to find out how many people have come under the coronavirus in that state. Meanwhile, the CERO survey in Chennai has revealed that so far 20 percent of the public has been caught in the coronavirus. Sero survey conducted in the areas of Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has revealed that about 20 percent of the population has recovered here due to Corona infection.

GCC gave the above information after its initial investigation. According to this, 12 thousand people were tested in the survey. Out of these, 2,673 people were found to have been infected with the coronavirus at some time. GCC Commissioner G. Prakash told reporters that this study meant that 21.5 percent of the population of Chennai had reached the level of immunity by the end of July.

Now, this level of immunity will be higher and it also means a lower rate of infection. He said that this scientific study would prove useful in changing the strategy to deal with corona as about 80 percent of the population is still at risk of infection. Samples for this survey were collected between 18 and 28 July and their testing was completed by 6 August.
