Anil Deshmukh Did Not Appear Before Enforcement Directorate

Anil Deshmukh did not appear before ED, said- waiting for the order of the Supreme Court.

Inderpal Singh, counsel for former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, said, “We have asked the ED to wait till the matter is heard in the Supreme Court.

We have told the ED in our letter that we will appear before them after the Supreme Court order comes. We are cooperating fully in the investigation.

Significantly, former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday in connection with the money laundering probe against him and others.

For this, the ED had issued the fifth summons on Tuesday. Please tell that Anil Deshmukh is not coming forward since the raid in the money laundering case.

The development comes a day after the Supreme Court denied interim protection to the 71-year-old NCP leader from any coercive action by the federal agency.

According to sources, Anil Deshmukh was asked to appear before the investigating officer of the case at the ED office in South Mumbai on August 18. This was the fifth such summons issued to Deshmukh.

The notice has been issued under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as the agency wants to record its statement in the matter.

It is noteworthy that Anil Deshmukh had termed the ED’s action as unfair and did not appear for questioning.

In this case, his son Hrishikesh and his wife were also called but they too remained absent.

Deshmukh had last month issued a video statement saying that he would appear before the ED only after the apex court’s decision on his plea.

In this case, Deshmukh had said that I had received the ED’s summons, after which I had filed a petition in the Supreme Court.

I will go before the ED to record my statement after the Supreme Court’s decision on my petition. Due to which Anil Deshmukh resigned from his post in April.
