Army Chief General MM Narwane on Monday held talks with the Chief Operations Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army, General Battu Tsering.

The two discussed issues related to bilateral defense cooperation. The army gave this information by tweeting.

The telephonic conversation between the Danes military officials has taken place amid China’s growing dominance in the region.

According to a white paper released by the Chinese government on Tibet on Friday, China is intensifying its efforts to develop infrastructure in remote villages along the border of Tibet bordering India, Bhutan and Nepal.

China’s 450 km border meets Bhutan, but the border has not been delineated there yet.

Bhutan is a strategically important country for India because of its location, and both sides are steadily increasing cooperation in diverse fields, including in the areas of defense and security.

The Indian Army has developed the infrastructure amid a continuing military standoff with the Chinese military for more than a year.

On the Line of Actual Control (LAC), a large number of troops can now be housed in residential bases built in the Ladakh sector and other areas.

The construction of these residential locations will help the troops to work efficiently and stay stationed even during the extremely cold weather of Ladakh when the temperature drops below minus 45 degrees.

Sources said that the newly created residential accommodation can accommodate double the number of soldiers currently deployed only in Ladakh sector.

According to estimates, both India and China have deployed more than 50,000 troops in front of each other in the East Ladakh sector, despite withdrawing their forces in the Pangong Lake region earlier this year.

Sources say that the Engineering Corps is still engaged in building infrastructures on the LAC so that additional military forces can carry out operations and remain there if needed.

India is also involved in developing road infrastructure in all sectors on the LAC and has accelerated work on the Nimu-Padma-Darcha Axis to help in the movement of troops from all parts of the country to Ladakh throughout the year.

The Ministry of Defense is also set to approve a proposal to allow the BRO to build a 4.5-km-long tunnel for connectivity on the new road soon.
