Army Chief Said – Atmosphere Of Confrontation Created By China. Army Chief General MM Narwane said on Friday that China’s growing influence in India’s neighborhood and its unilateral attempt to change the status quo on disputed borders created an atmosphere of confrontation and mutual distrust.

Addressing a seminar, General Narwane said that the rivalry between China and the US has created regional imbalances and instability.

He said China’s aggression in the Indian Pacific, its hostility to vulnerable countries, and its drive to create a state of regional dependency through schemes such as the Belt and Road Initiative have affected the regional security environment.

The army chief made this remark at a time when the process of repelling Indian-China forces in eastern Ladakh is going on.

Referring to geopolitical developments in the region, General Narwane also spoke of China’s increasing investment in Nepal and the ongoing political instability there.

Emphasized the need to harness the capabilities of the North Eastern Region.

He said the failure to keep promises and not completing tasks on time created difficulties in efforts to improve regional connectivity.

The Kaladan Multimodal Transport Project and the Trilateral Highway both crossed the cost and timelines. On referring to the internal front, General Narwane said there had been many challenges in infrastructure development.

The involvement of many agencies, different sources of funds, and environmental factors are major hurdles.

He said that an apex body is needed to coordinate multi-agency efforts. The army chief said that the internal security situation in the Northeast has improved enthusiastically.

He said, ‘You can see that most parts of Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Assam have been freed from extremism. There has been a significant decrease in the level of violence in the past years.

The army chief also said, ‘You must have often heard that the northeast needs to be connected to the mainland of India.

The notion that India is the mainland and the Northeast should associate itself with the mainland methods is in itself flawed and contemptible. ‘
