BJP workers protest in Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal. Arnab Goswami, the editor of the TV news channel, was arrested by the police of Raigad, a nearby district of Mumbai, from his Mumbai home at 8 am on Wednesday.

He has been arrested in a case of abetment to suicide in 2018. The hearing took place in Alibaug court till late night on Arnab’s bail. He and two others, Feroz Sheikh and Nitesh Sharda were later sent to 14 days of judicial custody.

The Alibaug Magistrate Court said there is no basis for police custody. According to the court, there is no connection between the accused and the suicide.

According to the judge, the police did not seek the court’s permission to resume the investigation into the case which was closed in 2019. Arnab’s lawyer Gaurav Parker said this is our big win.

MCR (Magisterial Custody Remand) is granted on day one. The court refused police custody and the judicial custody was granted. We have filed our bail application, it has been put up for debate. It will be decided tomorrow.

Five hours hearing on bail

Arnab was presented at Alibaug court at half-past five in the evening. He could not get bail even after the hearing that lasted nearly five hours. He was later sent to jail for 14 days of judicial custody.

It is believed that the High Court can be approached for bail.

After leaving the court, Arnab was defeated while going to the police van, police were seen saying lost. While going to court in the evening, he went inside with two fingers making a mark of victory.

The Mumbai police on Wednesday evening registered a fresh FIR against TV news channel editor Arnab Goswami and his wife, son, and two others.

He lodged a protest in front of the arresting police officers. An FIR was registered under sections 353, 504, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

There have been protests in Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday to protest against the arrest of Arnab Goswami. BJP workers compared the arrest to the Emergency.

Senior BJP leader Chandrakant Patil said that BJP workers in Maharashtra would wear black badges or black clothes until television journalist Arnab Goswami was released by the police.

Maharashtra’s BJP president termed the arrest of Republic TV editor in the suicide case “like an emergency”.

He said that BJP workers will wear black badges or black clothes until Arnab’s release. The BJP leader said the case was against Goswami, reopening to settle a political score.

BJP Delhi Party activists on Wednesday protested against the attack on freedom of the press and fascist action against Arnab Goswami at Congress headquarters in New Delhi.

In Bhopal, BJP state president VD Sharma, MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, and BJP workers took out a torch rally in protest against Arnab Goswami’s arrest.

Significantly, Arnab Goswami was arrested by the Maharashtra Police on Wednesday morning. A team of Mumbai Police reached Arnab Goswami’s house in the morning and took him with him in a police van.

According to the leading news agency, Arnab Goswami alleged that the Mumbai Police had a scuffle with him, his wife, son, and father-in-law.

Republic TV has also issued a statement on this whole matter by issuing a statement. Police say Arnab Goswami has been arrested for abetting a 53-year-old interior designer to suicide.

Editors Guild and NBA condemn the arrest

The Editors Guild of India and the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) have condemned the arrest of Arnab Goswami.

Both organizations appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to treat them appropriately and not use the power of power against critical reporting by the media.

The NBA also said that, although the association does not agree with Arnab’s journalistic methods, she condemns retaliation by the authorities.
