Automakers register tremendous sales growth in August, Maruti Suzuki lags behind.

Major Automakers such as Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota Kirloskar, and Honda reported an increase in domestic sales in August due to the festive season.

Though market leader Maruti Suzuki cut sales of its cars due to semiconductor shortage. The fall is painful.

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) reported domestic sales of 1,10,080 units as against 1,16,704 units in the same month last year, down 6 percent.

“The company’s sales volume in August 2021 was impacted due to shortage of electronic components. The company took all possible measures to limit the adverse impact,” MSIL said in a statement.

On the other hand, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) said that its domestic sales grew by 2 percent to 46,866 units as against 45,809 units in August 2020.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported a 17 percent growth in domestic passenger vehicle sales in August from 15,973 units in the same month last year, when it sold 13,651 units.

Vijay Nakra, Chief Executive Officer – Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra said, “The demand across our product portfolio continues to be strong with Thar, XUV300, and our recently launched Bolero Neo and our Bolero Pik-Up range. ”

He said the supply of semiconductors continues to be a global issue for the auto industry and a key area for the company as well.

Tata Motors also said that its passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 28,018 units in August, up 51 percent from 18,583 units in the same month last year.

Automakers Register Tremendous Sales Growth: Similarly, automaker Kia India said its sales grew 55 percent to 16,750 units last month from 10,845 units in August 2020.

Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) reported a 49 percent increase in domestic sales in August at 11,177 units from 7,509 units in the same month last year.

Senior Vice President, HCIL, said, “The positive sales momentum and overall strong demand helped us achieve good sales with the onset of the festive season”.

The festive fervor started with Onam in southern India, the peak of the festivals. It will spread to other markets as well. Chairman and Director, Marketing and Sales Rajesh Goel said.

“While we are quite optimistic on the demand side going forward, we are carefully monitoring the current supply-side issues affecting the industry and any future COVID-related disruptions,” he added.

Skoda Auto India also registered a nearly four-fold jump in sales at 3,829 units in August 2021. It had sold 1,003 units in the same month last year.

Similarly, Nissan Motor India registered a nearly four-fold jump in its two brands Nissan and Datsun at 3,209 units in bulk in August 2021.

It had registered a wholesale of 810 units in the same month last August 2020.

Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India said, “With the onset of the festive season, customer sentiment is positive with increasing inflow of bookings, the challenge is on the supply side with supply crunch and increased supply of semi-drivers. The time taken affects the availability of the vehicle.”

He added, “We expect this challenge to continue over the course of the coming months, while we continue to work with the supply chain in an effort to deliver more Nissan Magnates to customers so that they can become game-changing SUVs as quickly as possible. while we continue to focus on the customer experience to strengthen the network by increasing capacity and capacity.”
