Barbora Krejcikova And Medvedev Reached Quarter-finals

Barbora Krejcikova and Medvedev reach quarter-finals of US Open 2021.

French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova defeated two-time Grand Slam champion Gabayne Muguruza in straight games 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to reach the quarterfinals of the US Open.

Eighth seed Krejcikova took a medical break after falling behind in the second set. She scored seven consecutive points when the game was restored.

Now she will face Czech Republic’s Arena Sabalenka, who is the world’s number two player.

Muguruza won the 2016 French Open and 2017 Wimbledon and was runner-up at last year’s Australian Open, but never made it past the fourth round at the US Open.

On the other hand, Canada’s giant killer Lela Fernandez, who is in excellent form, defeated two former champions to enter the quarter-finals.

Unseeded Layla beat 2016 winner Angelique Kerber 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Earlier, he had ousted former champion Naomi Osaka. She will now face fifth seed Elina Svitolina.

US Open 2021: Medvedev in quarterfinals.

Second seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia defeated Britain’s Daniel Evans to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open. Medvedev defeated Evans 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in a match that lasted one hour and 43 minutes.

The 25-year-old has been in excellent form since the Tokyo Olympics. He won his fourth ATP Masters 1000 title in Toronto and reached the semifinals in Cincinnati.

Medvedev said, ‘When I came here last time after the final loss in 2019 at the hands of Rafael Nadal, I had some good memories with me. Now I want to go to the final again.

Carlos Alvarez, 18, became the youngest player to reach the quarter-finals in 1963.

Carlos has been compared to 20-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal in Spain as he defeated 32-year-old German player Peter Jojowisch 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0.

He defeated world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last match. He also became the youngest player after Michael Chang to win two consecutive matches in five sets.

Chang did this feat at the age of 16 at the 1988 US Open. He will now face Canada’s 21-year-old Felix Auger Eliasime, who defeated American Francis Tiafoe 4-6, 6-2, 7-6, 6-4.
