A significant step towards enduring peace in Assam is today’s peace accord with ULFA.

By making deals with militant groups, they are trying to integrate their armed cadres into society to bring about lasting peace throughout all of North East India, particularly in Assam.

In this order, on Friday, a peace accord will be signed with the ULFA Rajkhowa group.

In addition to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, many prominent ULFA leaders will also be present when the agreement is inked.

In the last four years, peace agreements have been signed with tribal militant groups, Bodo militant groups, and Karbi and Dimasa groups in Assam itself.

According to highly placed sources, the peace agreement covers some political and economic issues along with securing the land rights of Assam’s culture and indigenous people.

Breaking News: Top ULFA (Rajkhowa faction) leaders Anup Chetia and Sashadhar Chaudhary are in Delhi for the last week to finalize the agreement.

Following multiple rounds of discussions with Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and Chief Negotiator AK Mishra, the decision was made on Friday to sign the agreement.

The deal excludes the extremist ULFA section led by Paresh Baruah. Barua is thought to be hiding someplace close to the border between China and Myanmar.

In 2011, the Rajkhowa-led section of the ULFA agreed to suspend operations to announce peace discussions leading to absolute peace.

The three parties were able to agree on the peace arrangement following protracted negotiations that lasted 12 years.

After the arrival of the Modi government and especially after Amit Shah became the Home Minister, the process of establishing permanent peace by resolving the long-running conflict in various parts of North-East India has accelerated.

As a result, various types of violence have been reduced by approximately three-fourths.

Large areas have been freed from AFSPA after more than 8900 armed cadres associated with militant groups surrendered and returned to the mainstream.
