Carlos Alcaraz Becomes The Youngest World Number 1

Carlos Alcaraz becomes the youngest world number 1: ATP World Rankings. US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz becomes the youngest world number 1.

Carlos Alcarez’s title win at the US Open tennis tournament has propelled him to number one in the ATP world rankings at the age of 19.

He has become the youngest male player to top the ATP rankings since computerized rankings were introduced in 1973.

Alcarez said, “It’s a dream. Right now I can’t believe that I have reached the number one ranking. It will take time to understand it.”

“I have to move on and find new goals. I have to remain at this level for many years.”

That’s my goal – and of course to win more Grand Slam titles.” Spain’s Alcarez resumed his career with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-3 victory over Casper Roode in Sunday’s final.

Won the first major title of the tournament and replaced 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev at the top of the world rankings.

Alkaraj jumped three places to reach the number one ranking. Norway’s 23-year-old Rood jumped from number seven to number two after reaching his second major final of the season.

He was also runner-up in the final of the French Open in June, losing to Rafael Nadal.

Nadal also had a chance to become number one after the US Open but remains at number three after losing to Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round.

Tiaffoe, who became the first American male player in 16 years to reach the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows, has slipped from number 26 to a career-best ranking of 19th.

Medvedev has slipped to number four. Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev slipped from number two to number five after being ruled out of the US Open with a right ankle injury.

Novak Djokovic has missed out on his second Grand Slam tournament this season as he has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 and has slipped one place to number seven.

After winning her first and third career Grand Slam in New York, Inga Swiatec has moved up to number one in the WTA rankings.

Poland’s 21-year-old Swiatec has more than twice the number of points behind second-placed Ons Jebur. Swiatek defeated Jebur in the final on Saturday.

Swiatek also won the French Open and is the first female player in six years to win two Grand Slams in one season.

Annette Kontaveit has slipped a place to number three after losing to Serena Williams in the second round of the US Open.
