CBI Gets Custody Of Anil Deshmukh And Sachin Waze

CBI gets custody of Anil Deshmukh and Sachin Waze in a corruption case that can be brought from Mumbai to Delhi for questioning.

Two special courts on Friday allowed the CBI to keep former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Sachin Waze, and two other accused in custody for further investigation in a corruption case.

It is understood that the CBI will take them into custody very soon and may bring them to Delhi for further questioning.

Anil Deshmukh and his associates Sanjeev Palande and Kundan Shinde are currently in judicial custody in the money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The Central Bureau of Investigation had filed an application before Additional Sessions Judge DP Singhade for his custody.

The judge on Thursday issued a request letter to the Special Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court, which hears cases related to the ED, to transfer Deshmukh and the other two to CBI custody.

NIA was arrested in Antilia’s case.

The CBI had also sought the custody of Sachin Waze. Waze was arrested in March 2021 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Antilia case.

Following this, Judge DP Singhade sent a similar request letter to the special NIA court. Waze is currently in judicial custody at Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai.

Special PMLA and NIA courts on Friday, in separate orders, directed the respective jail superintendents to hand over the custody of the four accused Deshmukh, Palande, Shinde, and Waze to the CBI.

Param Bir Singh had made allegations of recovery.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had alleged that the then Home Minister Deshmukh had given a target to police officials to recover Rs 100 crore per month from restaurants and bars in the city.

What can be given an interim order in the transfer of assets of FRL, the Supreme Court asked on Amazon’s petition.

The Supreme Court on Friday asked whether it can pass any interim order on Amazon’s plea seeking a stay on the acquisition of Future Retail (FRL) stores by Reliance Retail till an arbitration tribunal.

No verdict is given in this case. A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana will now hear the matter on April 4.
