CBI Has Opposed Anticipatory Bail Plea In ISRO Case

CBI has opposed anticipatory bail plea in the ISRO case. CBI tells Kerala High Court, custodial interrogation of four is necessary in the ISRO case.

The CBI has opposed in the Kerala High Court the anticipatory bail plea of three former police officers and a retired Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer in the ISRO conspiracy case.

The probe agency said that foreign intelligence agencies like Pakistan’s ISI had hatched a conspiracy to sabotage the development of cryogenic technology in India.

Interrogation of the accused is necessary to find out the mastermind behind this operation.

This argument was made by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the CBI before Justice Ashok Menon.

He told the court that the matter was serious which could affect national security.

It was also argued that no relief should be given to accused police officers S. Vijayan, Thampi S. Durgadutt, and RB Sreekumar, and retired IB officer PS Jayaprakash as the case is still at a critical juncture of the investigation.

The petition was filed for anticipatory bail.

The Kerala High Court had on different dates, in this case, granted interim protection from arrest to former Kerala Police officers RB Sreekumar.

S Vijayan, and Thampi S Durgadutt- and former Intelligence Bureau officer PS Jayaprakash.

All of them had filed a petition for anticipatory bail in the case registered by the CBI.

Apart from these four, 14 others have been booked under various sections of IPC including criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, tampering with evidence.

The case was registered by the probe agency in connection with the arrest and custody of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan in the 1994 espionage case.
